The traditional role of assessment has been assessment of learning, which is valuable in providing immediate feedback for teachers based on student performance (Puckett, 2013). Differentiating strategies for assessment allows the teacher to adjust their teaching and be aware of the areas a student is struggling in before assessing. A teacher can administer formative or summative assessments. Formative assessment is an ongoing assessment that gives clear feedback to students and models what success looks like. There are different types of formative assessments such as, exit tickets, think-pair-share, observations, graphic organizers, and questioning.
